Christmas With The Glasgow Rocks

With Christmas approaching we thought we would get the thoughts of some of the team and our GM Dan on some very important issues. Make sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see our Christmas message from Yves!

1) Favourite Christmas food?

Turkey should be the Rocks pre-game meal for the Christmas period.

Neil: Heavenly hash (not what you’re thinking of Rocks fans!).

Yves: Well my family is from Congo and we usually have a lot of different dishes for Christmas, kind of like a thanksgiving dinner. It is not your typical Christmas dinner but I’d say fried potatoes, steak with mushrooms and mushroom sauce.

Anthony: Milk and cookies.

Hayden: Apple pie.

Boris: Everything my Mom, Aunt and/or Grandma cook!

Bantu: All of it.

Gareth: Mince pies.

Lewis: Yorkshire pudding. If it’s sweet then it’s Terry’s chocolate orange. You can only get them during Christmas time in Australia.

Jonny: The soup my mum always makes at Christmas is the best.

Dan: Brussels sprouts (Eww…)

2) Favourite Christmas song?

Neil: I like all the songs. I don’t have a specific favourite.

Yves: I’m a huge fan or R&B music so would have to say “This Christmas” from one of my favourite groups Boyz 2 Men.

Anthony: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Hayden: Little Drummer Boy.

Boris: All I Want For Christmas Is You

Bantu: This Christmas.

Gareth: Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

Lewis: Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.

Jonny: Let It Snow or Fairytale Of New York.

Dan: Carol of the Bells.

3) Favourite Christmas movie?

Here to try and spoil the party. The party being the game against Cheshire on 30th December. Are you John Lavery in disguise? Wait, I mean Colin O’Reilly. Oh hold on…Robbie Peers? I don’t know anymore.

Neil: How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Yves: Home Alone.

Anthony: Home Alone and A Christmas Story.

Hayden: How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Boris: Any Disney animated movie that is on at the time.

Bantu: How The Grinch Stole Christmas.

Gareth: Elf.

Lewis: Elf.

Jonny: Home Alone 1,2 or Jingle All The Way

Dan: I have 3 that I watch religiously every Christmas…  National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Home Alone 2, It’s a Wonderful Life.

4) Favourite Christmas gift ever received?

Neil: New game system.

Yves: Pair of colourful socks, big on my socks.

Anthony: My first pair of LeBron basketball sneakers when I was young. It was significant to me because I never asked for them because I knew they were quite expensive and I didn’t want to bother my mom, but somehow she knew I wanted them  and still managed to get them for me.

Hayden: When my brothers and I got our family dog, Jake.

Boris: Lego construction set.

Bantu: NBA tickets.

Gareth: Portable basketball hoop.

Lewis: A mobile phone when I was 13. My parents wrapped it in tape so I was struggling to open it for 30 minutes.

Jonny: The love of my family or my Playstation – tough call.

Dan: A remote controlled police car back when I was 7.

5) An angel or a star on top of the Christmas tree?

Neil: A star.

Yves: An angel.

Anthony: Most likely an angel, but a star will do as well.

Hayden: Star.

LeBron probably puts a photo of himself on top of the Christmas tree. #star

Boris: Star.

Bantu: Angel.

Gareth: Star.

Lewis: An angel.

Jonny: Star.

Dan: Star.

6) Coloured lights or white lights on the Christmas tree?

Neil: Coloured.

Yves: Coloured lights.

Anthony: Traditionally I’m used to color lights, but maybe I’ll try white this year.

Hayden: White.

Boris: Coloured.

Bantu: Both.

Gareth: Coloured.

Lewis: White lights.

Jonny: Whatever my mum wants.

Dan: White lights.

7) What would you leave out on Christmas Eve for Santa and his reindeer to eat and drink?

Neil: Cookies and milk.

Yves: Pizza. Everyone loves pizza.

Anthony: Some haggis and an Irn Bru.

Hayden: Milk and cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer.

Boris: Sarmi, stuffed peppers, pumpkin pastry, bread and kompot! Just to clarify, in Bulgaria the tradition on Christmas Eve is not to eat animal products.

Bantu: Milk and cookies.

Gareth: Carrot, mince pie and milk.

Lewis: Cookies and milk and carrots for the reindeer.

Jonny: Krispy Kreme and Iron Brew

Dan: Cookies, Tim Tams and Milk for Santa. Carrots for the reindeer.

8) If you had a pet reindeer what would you call him/her?

We found JB’s reindeer – Neil Watson.

Neil: I would call him Lucky.

Yves: Pumba haha from the Lion King.

Anthony: Apollo.

Hayden: Mitch or Carter.

Boris: Thunder.

Bantu: Bambi.

Gareth: Ruby – that’s my daughter’s reindeer’s name.

Lewis: Noideer, maybe Dasher.

Jonny: Neil Watson.

Dan: Skippy.

9) Do you own a Christmas jumper?

Neil: I do but don’t have any in Scotland with me.

Yves: Nope but would love one.

Anthony: No, I do not own a Christmas jumper at the moment.

Hayden: I do not but I plan on getting one this weekend!

Boris: No not yet!

Bantu: No.

Gareth: Yes several.

Lewis: No I don’t unfortunately.

Jonny: Yeah it’s horrible.

Dan: Yes, sure do.

10) Who out the guys in the team/coaching staff would be most likely to win in a snowball fight?

Neil: I would say myself because I’m one of the few guys that’s been around snow haha.

Yves: The group is very competitive haha that is a tough one. Hmm, we’d have to change the rules a bit as I don’t see anyone quitting. Dodgeball rules. So would say Bantu.

The face of Sterling Davis when someone hits him with a snowball.

Anthony: That’s a tough one. Maybe Neil or Jonny since they are smaller targets haha, and plus they won’t stop playing until it’s the last man standing knowing them.

Hayden: Well throwing a snowball is similar to throwing a baseball. So I would have to go with an American. Probably Coach Erik.

Boris: It will be between me, Neil or Bantu. The reason is that I have great experience in the matter but both of them are ridiculously fast and agile making them hard to hit.

Bantu: Me.

Gareth: Bantu. Too fast and small.

Lewis: Coach Davis.

Jonny: A combination of me and Bantu is your best bet.

Dan: Without a doubt Sterling Davis!

Thanks to all the players and to Dan for answering our questions! Check out our video below from Yves.

To finish up, The Rolling Rocks would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thank you for your support so far!
